๐ŸŽฏ Key Takeaways

  • โ€ข **January 2025 recorded the highest number of UFO sightings**, defying typical winter trends.
  • โ€ข **MUFON's 1,959 cases were outnumbered by NUFORC's 2,565 reports**, highlighting a broader interest in UFO phenomena.
  • โ€ข **Cylindrical and star-like UFOs are consistently reported**, with the U.S. leading in overall sightings.

The Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) has released its statistics for the first seven months of 2025, revealing that the UFO phenomenon continues unabated. January, typically a quiet month due to winter conditions, surprisingly recorded the highest number of sightings, both incoming and unknown. This marks a significant recovery from 2024, when the CMS was shut down for three months, leading to a loss of reports.

Despite the robust number of cases, MUFON's 1,959 reported events were outpaced by the National UFO Reporting Center (NUFORC), which recorded 2,565 sightings during the same period. The data includes both U.S. and international cases.

Analysis of the shapes of UFOs reported shows interesting trends. Cylindrical UFOs make up 8% of both U.S. and non-U.S. cases, while star-like objects account for approximately 6.8%. Discoidal and spherical objects, often reported as circular UFOs, represent 42.4% of U.S. unknowns and 56.3% of non-U.S. unknowns. Notably, the term "Tic Tac" for cylindrical UFOs remains largely a U.S. phenomenon, popularized by David Fravor's 2004 sighting.

Internationally, the U.S. dominates the number of reports, with countries like India and China reporting significantly fewer sightings. As of August 31, 2025, India reported only 13 sightings, while China reported none.
