The witnesses in this story - who took photos - are neighbours of mine. Both versions trot out an astronomer saying all we saw was the Big Dipper. Trouble is, the Big D is in the northern sky. The astronomer-guy even invokes the holy name of NORAD, which everybody knows has a spotless reputation of impartiality in these matters. Another problem is that this newspaper account says the sighting took place Christmas Day, whereas mine was on Christmas Eve. Same quadrant of the sky, roughly the same time, similar colours and actions, different consecutive days. Other "Big Dipper" witnesses from the Nanaimo area are still coming forward, will update as soon as I hear more. “Never believe anything until it’s officially denied.”

We both have been searching to see if anyone may have seen it to and find an article to make sure we were not losing it. We were pulling into the parking lot of radio shack we we noticed the lights in the sky, it was not quite dark and the lights were so bright. We sat in the car and just watched, the lights were gone before we could take a picture. We sat and waited for a while to see if they would come back, but it was gone. It was amazing to see, we had never seen anything like it before. I'm glad to find out someone else saw it to. No way could they of been chinese lanterns as they moved far too fast...and I also noticed it had no tail (as in flames behind it)....it did seem to have a red "glow" around it....so possibly extremely hot!!
