๐ŸŽฏ Key Takeaways

  • โ€ข **Tropical Storm Arthur** formed in the Atlantic Ocean and brought high winds and heavy rain to the U.S. Gulf Coast
  • โ€ข **Maximum sustained winds** of 40 miles per hour were recorded, with tropical-storm-force winds extending 175 miles from the storm's center
  • โ€ข **Heavy rainfall** was produced, with estimates showing high rainfall rates over Gulf waters and extending inland

Tropical Storm Arthur brought high winds and heavy rain to the U.S. Gulf Coast in mid-June. NASA's Terra satellite captured images of the storm on June 17, 2026.

The images show the storm's white storm clouds covering the waters off the U.S. Gulf Coast, with some clouds extending inland over parts of Texas and Louisiana. The storm had maximum sustained winds of 40 miles per hour and delivered strong winds to parts of the Gulf Coast as it tracked northeast.

The storm also produced heavy rainfall, with estimates from the Integrated Multi-Satellite Retrievals for GPM (IMERG) showing high rainfall rates over Gulf waters and extending inland on June 17. The National Weather Service warned that the heavy rainfall could lead to life-threatening flash flooding.
