NASA and global leaders met to advance the Artemis Accords, aiming for responsible space exploration.
NASA and international space leaders gathered at the 76th International Astronautical Congress in Sydney to discuss the implementation of the Artemis Accords. These accords, established five years ago, aim to guide responsible space exploration. Acting NASA Administrator Sean Duffy emphasized the coalition's strength, noting the importance of peaceful exploration as nations aim to establish a sustained presence on the Moon.
The accords, initially signed by the U.S. and seven other nations, now include 56 countries, representing nearly 30% of the world's nations. The meeting, co-chaired by NASA, the Australian Space Agency, and the UAE Space Agency, focused on non-interference in space activities, transparency, and orbital debris management.
Enrico Palermo, head of the Australian Space Agency, highlighted the importance of the accords in fostering peaceful and sustainable exploration. UAE Minister Ahmad Belhoul Al Falasi reiterated the UAE's commitment to international cooperation in space.
More countries are expected to join the accords, furthering NASA's mission to ensure a safe and prosperous future in space.
