pulsing red-orange in broken clouds at 1200 feet

UFO Sighting Report!

Bedtime on board my sailboat is about sundown in Marina Chahue, Huatulco, Oaxaca, Mexico and I bunk on deck to watch the sky, as usual. This night the clouds were thin and broken at about 1200 feet and the only visible light above was from the moon and Jupiter, I think. At about 2000 the planet was just crossing my longitude of 096 degrees West and the moon about 10 degrees farther to the West.
Then, about 10 degrees East of the planet there was a pulsing red orange light at cloud level. I went below for binoculars to check closer and now see an half sphere, about bus sized, which was bright red orange when pointing in my direction and dull red when viewing its back side which was flat. The half sphere was moving smoothly clockwise (from below) around absolutely nothing (visible) each second or so. The column of nothing would have been able to hold about 20 of these lighted objects were they side to side. The movement of the machine was was generally NNW but moved as if “hunting” for something. That is, like a bug, sent, or signal while the rotation of the bulb was very smooth, its altitude remained constant and about 3 or 4 miles offshore, I guess. When dull the brightness was about like the planet but it illuminated the clouds on its far side, and when pointing my direction much, much brighter but still less than the moon glow.
After about 3 to 4 minutes the object faded into the thicker clouds or just dimmed out.
I look out over the Gulfo de Tehuantepec each night but sadly no more sightings for some 4 months, now.
